This site offers profiles of the lives and work of commercial portrait photographers in nineteenth century Southampton. Where possible, examples of carte de visite and cabinet card portraits are included. However, many of the photographers were only working in Southampton briefly, or did not produce portraits in great numbers; consequently examples of their work are yet to be found.
The photographer profiles can help to date carte de visite and cabinet card portraits, as dates are given for when and where each photographer was working.
