Arthur Freeman's first occupation was Lithographic Draughtsman. He was born in Leicester and in 1881 he lived with his widowed father in Litchurch, Derbyshire, and worked as Lithographic Draughtsman aged 15. By 1891 he was back in Leicester with his wife, working as a 'Draughtsman Mantle Piece'.
During the 1890s Freeman became a Photographic artist and moved to Onslow Road, Southampton. Arthur Freeman was probably the Freeman in both the partnership Bradburn and Freeman and the company Freeman and Co, rather than photographer William Freeman. In the late 1890s Freeman and Co worked from a studio at 5 Bernard St. Bradburn and Freeman had branches in Oxford St, Southampton, and in Leicester, Arthur Freeman's home town.
Freeman and his family were listed at the same address in Onslow Road until the early 1930s. The last listing for Photographer Arthur Freeman in Onslow Road was in 1935.
